Report: Ambassador sees EU signals to end Russian sanctions
MOSCOW, Jul 23 (PRIME) -- The E.U. is sending an increasing number of signals to stop the sanctions face-off between Moscow and Brussels, Russian Ambassador to the union, Vladimir Chizhov said in an interview to Rossiya 24 TV channel late on Wednesday.
“The fact that current freezing of various paths of cooperation with Russia hurts both sides is evident to everyone, I think. And signals that this page should be turned and we should return to normal life are coming more often and more definitely (from the E.U.),” he said.
Time to start talks to revise the sanction policy is winter, as the next deadline for revision or renewal of the sanction regime comes is in late January 2016. “Of course, much will depend on the way of political settlement of the conflict in Ukraine,” Chizhov added.
In 2014, relations between Russia and the West deteriorated to their worse since the Cold War due to a military conflict in Ukraine. The West introduced sanctions against some Russian individuals and firms and further against the energy and banking sectors. In response, Russia limited food imports from some countries, including the U.S., the E.U., Canada, Australia, and Norway.
